Pictayo
A private photo map and timeline. Pictayo turns a folder of photos into two things you can actually browse: a day-by-day timeline of when they were taken, and an interactive map of where. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no upload, no charge.
How it works
- Choose your photos. Pick files or a whole folder from your phone or computer. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- Pictayo reads what is already there. Capture dates build the timeline; GPS coordinates already stored in the files place them on the map and name nearby landmarks and places to eat.
- Explore and share. Browse day by day, revisit places on the map, and export a standalone website you can keep or host anywhere.
Why it is built this way
- Your library never leaves the device. Photos and videos are decoded and stored in the browser. There is no media backend to upload them to.
- Only coordinates are ever shared. When a file has GPS data, those numbers alone go to place-name and map services — never the picture.
- Nothing to sign up for. No account, no email, no tracking of who you are.
- Made for every screen. Phone, tablet, or desktop, including touch and pinch on the map and lightbox.
The name
Pictayo is pronounced pic-TAH-yo. It comes from the Filipino and Taglish phrase “Pic tayo,” meaning “Let's take a picture” — the familiar moment when family or friends gather together to capture a memory. Pictayo is made for everyone.

- No. Photos and videos are read and stored in your browser and never leave your device. Pictayo has no media backend. When a file contains GPS coordinates, only those coordinates are sent to place-name and map services so a location can be named.
- What does Pictayo do with my photos?
- It reads the capture date and any GPS coordinates already in each file, groups the photos into a day-by-day timeline, and plots the ones with coordinates on an interactive map, naming nearby landmarks and places to eat.
- Do my photos need location data?
- No. Photos without GPS coordinates still appear on the timeline by date; they simply are not placed on the map. Most phone cameras record coordinates when location is enabled.
- Can I share the result?
- Yes. Pictayo can export a standalone photo website — a folder of your own photos and pages that opens in any browser and can be hosted anywhere or kept offline.
